Marcy Sharman

Lower School Music Teacher

Marcy Sharman is a native Ohioan and graduated from Bowling Green State University (1982) with a bachelor’s degree in music education with an instrumental emphasis. She felt the call to be a music teacher while still in high school. Upon arriving in Vero Beach, Florida, she found herself as the Director of Music at Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church for the next seven years. While there, she directed the adult choir and developed children’s choirs and handbell choirs for all ages.

By 1988, she was invited to teach second grade music classes at Saint Edward’s School.

That eventually led to responsibilities teaching students from pre-kindergarten through ninth grade over the course of 37 years. She developed children’s choirs, handbell choirs, and began the band program at the elementary and middle school level. Her students participated in local festivals and numerous concerts each year. Her band students participated in solo and ensemble adjudication and district band events, and several played in Florida All State honor bands.

She has been responsible for creating many concerts and performances over the years.

From the huge Christmas concert involving the entire Lower School, to class plays, Grandparents’ Day, and band concerts every year, Marcy found the best songs for each grade or ability level and carefully taught the students how to find their voice or play their instrument. Seeing the joy on the faces of her students as they performed their best made all the hard work worthwhile. She also wrote original musicals for the third-grade students when they were studying Florida history. The plays concentrated on a particular aspect of Florida history: The growth of the railroads across Florida, life in the Seminole nation, the loss of the 1715 treasure fleet off our coast, and Vero Beach’s 100th birthday. The students played a huge part in the creation of the songs, dialogue, and choreography for each of the shows.

In her spare time, Marcy is a part of the Worship Team at Pathway Church playing keys. She is so excited to be able to share her faith and love of worship music with the students of CCA and to help prepare them for participation in weekly chapel services.
